Florentino Perez and Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has downplayed speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave the club.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported on Monday that Ronaldo wanted a transfer away from Real after becoming disillusioned with a €14.7 million (£13 million) tax evasion case.

Pérez said Ronaldo is not upset at the club, however.

"[Ronaldo's agent] Jorge Mendes told me that Cristiano was angry at how the media had treated him," Pérez told MARCA on Monday. "Real Madrid has nothing to do with it."

Pérez has not had the chance to talk to Ronaldo personally as he does not want to disturb the forward during Portugal's involvement at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

"I [only] heard about Cristiano because of what a newspaper [A Bola] said," Pérez said. "I did not talk to him."

In England, rumours have been rife about the player returning to the Premier League. Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly ready to pounce but Pérez says Real has yet to receive any formal interest in the player.

"We have not had any offers [for] Cristiano," he explained.
